July 4, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
- RHP Justin Grimm (2-1. 3.06) at RHP Zeke Spruill (5-7, 3.39) -
FREEDOM BALL: Since the beginning of MiLB.com's digital records with the 2005 season, Fourth of July baseball hasn't been kind to the Pelicans. In fact, dating back six years, Myrtle Beach has just two wins on Independence Day. The Pelicans and Potomac Cannons/Nationals used to meet up for an annual date on the Fourth with Potomac taking three of four meetings from 2005-08. The Pelicans' one win over that stretch was a July 4 15-3 rout at Potomac in 2006. The Pelicans didn't host a Fourth of July game in franchise history until 2009. Wearing the Stars and Stripes, Myrtle Beach knocked off the Salem Red Sox 3-2 on July 4, 2009 before Salem beat Myrtle Beach at BB&T Coastal Field by a 10-4 final last year.
