Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Sunday night's game to close out the 2011 season's first-half between the Pelicans and Frederick Keys has been cancelled due to rain and wet field conditions at BB&T Coastal Field. The first-half Southern Division champion Pelicans head into the All-Star Break with a record of 40-29, one half-game behind the Keys for the best overall record in the Carolina League.
Sunday's cancellation was the Pelicans' first of the 2011 season and was not the only one of the first half's final day. Salem and Potomac were rained out this afternoon as well.
On Tuesday in Modesto, CA, four Pelicans will take part in the California-Carolina League All-Star Game. Ryan Strausborger will start in the outfield for the Carolina League squad and catcher Zach Zaneski made the team as a reserve. Two Myrtle Beach pitchers were named to the nine-man pitching staff, right-hander Joe Wieland and lefty Robbie Ross. Tuesday's game at John Thurman Field will begin at 10:30 p.m. EDT.
After the break, the season's second half will get started on Thursday as the Pelicans host the Potomac Nationals for the first of a three-game series. First pitch for Thursday's opener, as well as for the games on Friday and Saturday at BB&T Coastal Field, is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Tickets for Sunday's cancelled game can be redeemed for admission to any 2011 regular season Pelicans game. Tickets for all Pelicans home games can be purchased by visiting the BB&T Coastal Field Box office, the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com, or by calling (843)918-6000 or (877)918-TIXX.
