WILMINGTON, DE - Jose Martinez went 3 for 5 with a triple, a run scored, and an RBI to lead the Dash to a 3-2 win over the Blue Rocks on Father's Day at Frawley Stadium. Winston-Salem finished the first half of the season with a 32-38 record and earned a split of the four-game series in Wilmington.
The Dash grabbed an early lead against Rocks starter Elisaul Pimentel. Jared Mitchell tripled with one out in the first inning and then scored when Martinez hit a dribbler up the third base line for an RBI single.
Wilmington (36-33) quickly leapfrogged Winston in the bottom of the inning. Carlo Testa hit a one-out single against Ryan Buch and then Rey Navarro homered to right field, giving the Blue Rocks a 2-1 lead. The homer was Navarro's third in the last two games and the All-Star's fourth of the series.
Winston-Salem tied the game in the third inning. The Dash loaded the bases on an error and two singles before Ian Gac hit into a double play that scored Daniel Wagner from third base.
Martinez led off the fifth with a triple and scored the eventual winning run on Andy Wilkins' RBI groundout to the second baseman.
The Blue Rocks had chances to tie or take the lead later in the game, but left two on base in the bottom of the fifth and a man at second base in the ninth inning. Taylor Thompson struck out Gerard Hall with John Whittleman at second representing the tying run to end the game. Thompson got his seventh save of the season and second of the series with a scoreless ninth inning.
Buch (2-3) picked up the win after allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings. Pimentel (4-4) was the loser, surrendering three runs (two earned) on 11 hits in six frames.
