Salem RidgeYaks News Release
Woodbridge, VA - Due to overnight showers and the ominous afternoon forecast in northern Virginia, the final matchup of the weekend series between Salem and Potomac scheduled for Sunday at 1:05 has been cancelled. Because it is the final meeting of the half, the game will not be made up and the Red Sox will finish the first half with a record of 31-38 after taking two out of three from the Nationals.
The Salem Sox return to LewisGale Field on Thursday at 7:05, following this week's All-Star Game festivities in California. Catcher Dan Butler and pitcher Will Latimer will represent the Sox in the Advanced-A rendition of the midsummer classic, scheduled for Tuesday night in Modesto.
The second half begins with "Opening Day Take Two," a promotion based around the concept that Salem's original Opening Day in April was knocked out due to rain. The Kinston Indians will be in town on Thursday night to kick off the six-game homestand, with the official Boston Red Sox mascot "Wally the Green Monster" at Salem Memorial Ballpark on Friday and Saturday night. The homestand will also feature special in-house deals for fans if the Red Sox can achieve certain feats, like doubles, two-run homers, and turning double plays.
