Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans fell on Friday night 6-3 in a rain-shortened, five-inning contest to the Potomac Nationals from TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

After a 16-minute rain delay prior to first pitch, the Nationals (22-31) stormed out of the gates in the first inning and plated four runs to take an early lead. With a pair on and two outs in the inning, Telmito Agustin tripled to plate a pair of runs and made it 2-0 Potomac.

Potomac was able to add on with a David Masters RBI single and a double from Alex Dunlap to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Pelicans' (19-36) bats were held silent through the first three innings before they exploded for three in the fourth. After a solo homer from Cam Balego , Jimmy Herron blasted a two-run shot to close the gap to 4-3.

It did not take long for the Nationals to answer as they added two more in the top of the fifth inning. The Nationals collected a pair of RBI singles from Dunlap and Armond Upshaw to take a 6-3 lead.

That score would be the final as inclement weather moved into the area and washed away the remainder of the games after five innings.

Myrtle Beach will look to even the series on Saturday against the Nationals. Myrtle Beach has yet to name a starter while RHP Kyle Johnston (5-5, 4.53) will go for Potomac.

Satuday will be the first night of Braves Weekend at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Saturday will also be an Embrace Veterans Saturday presented by Embrace Hospice. Saturday will also be the first Palmetto State Saturday of the season.
