Pelicans Come Back on K-Tribe
June 10, 2006 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release
The champagne will have to stay on ice for at least one more day, as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans came back to defeat Kinston 7-3 Saturday night at Grainger Stadium. Down 3-2 after six innings, the Pelicans used a six hit, five run seventh inning to run away with this one. The Pelicans put ten men up to the plate as five straight singles sealed the Indians fate. Joe Ness (5-2) was the tough luck loser, giving up six hits and three runs in 6.2 innings for the K-Tribe. Luis Atilano (2-5), won his second game of the season giving up six hits and three earned runs in six innings.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, the K-Tribe got on the board with a solo homerun from Micah Schilling. It was Schilling's third homer of the season. With the K-Tribe down 2-1 in the fourth, Schilling came through again with a two RBI double scoring Trevor Crowe and Jose Constanza. Kinston held onto their 3-2 lead until the Pelicans big seventh inning.
Wilmington beat second place Winston-Salem 11-4 on Saturday night, shrinking the K-Tribe's magic number to one with eight games to play. The K-Tribe could clinch tomorrow afternoon when they send Scott Lewis to the mound at 2PM at Grainger Stadium.
