Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans used three home runs and seven scoreless innings from starter Aaron Jackson in a 7-0 blanking of the Cats in the first game of the American Association South Division Series on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.

The win gave the Pelicans a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

In the first inning, the first two batter reached on infield singles before Antoin Gray's RBI single brought home the game's first run. The Pelicans scored again in the second when Dallas Christison led off with a solo home run.

They added tow runs to their lead in the fourth as Kevin Reynolds smacked a two-run double off the wall in left to make it 5-0.

Solo homers by Marshall McDougall in the fifth and Antoin Gray in the ninth stretched the Pelicans lead to 7-0.

Reynolds was 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs. Gray and McDougall also contributed two RBIs each to pace the Pelicans 15-hit attack.

Jackson stifled the Cats throughout. After an error and a single put a man at second for Fort Worth in the first inning, Jackson summoned a grounder to end the inning. The Cats would not advance a runner past first base for the remainder of the inning. Jackson ended up going seven innings and allowing no runs on five hits.

Tyler Wilson and Bubba Nelson combined for two perfect innings out of the Pelicans bullpen to close out the win.

Cats' starter Lee Gwaltney lasted just 4 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on 12 hits as he took the loss.
