Wichita took away home field advantage from Lincoln at its first opportunity, using a strong outing by starting pitcher Will Savage to take a 1-0 series lead. Savage allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five in seven innings on the way to his first postseason victory. Wichita jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a RBI single off the bat of DH Kelly Hunt. Hunt finished the game 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the Wingnuts offensively. In the third inning, Wichita tacked on two more runs to go ahead 3-0, a lead that would really never be threatened. The Wingnuts also got a big night at the plate from LF Greg Porter, who was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Lincoln LF Gavin Dickey was 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the losing effort.

Pensacola starting pitcher Aaron Jackson shut down the Fort Worth Cats for seven innings while the Pelicans offense rattled off 15 hits en route to a 7-0 win in game one. Jackson earned win number one of the postseason thanks to a line that consisted of no runs on five hits with two strikeouts through the seven shutout frames. 2B Antoin Gray, 3B Marshall McDougall and Dallas Christison each chipped in with a homer in support of their starter and the trio combined to go 6-for-14 with four runs scored and five RBI. Though he didn't leave the yard, Pelicans RF Kevin Reynolds also had a good game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
