FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, pitched well Saturday night but were shut out 3-0 by the Corpus Christi Hooks in front of a crowd of 9,902 fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Frisco (40-34 overall, 2-3 second half) held the league's top offense hitless through 4 1/3 innings and scoreless until the sixth, led by starter Victor Payano, who worked three hitless innings to start the game. Relievers David Perez (1-2), Jason Richman, and John Fasola limited the Hooks to three runs Saturday night, almost two runs below their season average.

Scoreless through five innings, Corpus Christi (50-25, 3-2) broke through in the sixth inning against Perez. After Alex Bregman led off the inning with a walk and stole second base, Derek Fisher singled to bring him home to give the Hooks the only run they needed. The Hooks added an insurance run in the eighth and another in the ninth on base hits from Chase McDonald and Bregman.

The three runs stood thanks to a quality start from Corpus Christi starter Francis Martes (5-2). The righty tied his career-high with seven scoreless innings, permitting just three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Martes allowed a hit in each of the first three innings but allowed just two baserunners in his final four innings of work. Aaron West worked the final two innings to garner his ninth save of the year. The Riders brought the tying run to the plate with two ninth-inning singles, but West retired Preston Beck and Joe Jackson to close it out.

Frisco got multi-hit performances from Ronald Guzman and Luis Mendez, accounting for four of the six hits against Martes and West. Andy Ibanez had his 11-game hitting streak come to an end, going 0-for-4 in the loss.

The RoughRiders and Hooks wrap up their four-game series Sunday at 6:05 p.m. in the final game before the All-Star break. Frisco will send righty Reed Garrett (2-1, 4.62 ERA) to the mound against Corpus Christi southpaw Kent Emanuel (1-0, 2.70 ERA). Fans can watch the game on MiLB.tv (subscription required) or listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 5:30 p.m.
