Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

The slumping Pawtucket Red Sox matched a season high on Thursday night, losing their fourth consecutive game in Syracuse, 3-1. The Chiefs swept the series as the PawSox complete their swing through New York, at 4-4.

Billy Buckner enjoyed his best outing in a Pawtucket uniform. Although he didn't figure in the decision, Buckner tossed 5 shutout innings at Syracuse. He allowed three hits and walked a pair while striking out two. Alex Wilson came on in relief in the sixth and promptly allowed two runs to the Chiefs. Wilson (5-2) surrendered an RBI triple to former PawSox outfielder Brett Carroll and a run scoring base hit to Carlos Rivero. In the ninth, Mark Prior walked three (one intentionally) and gave up a sacrifice fly to Jim Negrych to cap the scoring at 3-1.

Tony Thomas got the PawSox on the board with a fifth inning, solo home run, his seventh of the season. Pedro Ciriaco extended his personal hitting streak to sixteen games. Pedro had two hits. Thomas' second hit was a double. The PawSox got a couple of walks in the ninth, but left the runners stranded. The season record falls to 45-29.

The PawSox head home for an eight homestand that begins on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Brandon Duckworth (7-1) is slated to face Louisvilles' Pedro Villareal (2-4).
