DURHAM BULLS (32-42) at ROCHESTER RED WINGS (33-39)

RHP MATT TORRA (6-6, 4.33) vs. LHP MATT MALONEY (0-3, 8.06)

SIRIUS ABOUT THE BULLS: The Rochester Red Wings today play the finale of their 4-game series vs. Durham (Rays), looking for a split after losing the first 2 games and winning 7-6 in walk-off fashion last night. The Wings tomorrow welcome International League South Division leader Charlotte (White Sox) to town for a 4-game series. Then it's on the road for a 4-game set at Lehigh Valley (Phillies).

MEET ME HALFWAY: The Red Wings have reached the official halfway point of the 2012 season, going 33-39 through 72 games. The club hasn't had a winning record at this juncture since 2007, when it went 39-33. The Red Wings in 2012 posted their best halfway record since 2009, when they went 34-38. The list:

Season First-Half Record 2nd-Half Record Finish

2012 33-39 ??? ???

2011 29-43 24-48 53-91

2010 29-43 20-52 49-95

2009 34-38 36-36 70-74

2008 31-41 43-29 74-70

2007 39-33 38-34 77-67

a The Red Wings are 19-16 in their last 35 games beginning May 15 and 24-23 beginning May 3.

MAGICAL NIGHT IN ROCHESTER: Wilkin Ramirez hit a 2-run walk-off home run with one out and an 0-2 count in the 9th inning last night vs. Durham to give the Red Wings a 7-6 win. It was the club's first walk-off homer since May 6, 2011, when Steve Singleton hit a 3-run shot in the 9th to beat Gwinnett (Braves) 7-5.

a Last night marked Rochester's 2nd walk-off win of the season, the first since June 7, when Matt Carson's RBI single with one out in the 13th beat Norfolk (Orioles) 2-1. Last night's victory also was the Red Wings' 6th their last at-bat and 13th of the come-from-behind variety.

a The Wings last night improved to 10-9 in one-run games, including 3 straight wins. They are 9-6 in one-run games at Frontier Field.

LET'S DO THIS: The Red Wings need a win today to avoid losing their first series at Frontier Field since getting swept in a 3-game set vs. Syracuse (Nationals) April 25-26. Rochester is unbeaten in 9 of their 11 series at Frontier, going 5-2-4. The only other series setback came April 11-13, when the Wings dropped 2 of 3 vs. Pawtucket (Red Sox).

a The Red Wings are 23-18 at Frontier Field overall, including a 19-14 mark as the home team.

HOMER HAPPY: The Red Wings have homered in a season-high 7 straight games, belting 10 long balls overall in that time. Matt Carson and Wilkin Ramirez both hit 2-run homers last night vs. Durham to extend the run. The Wings last homered in at least 8 straight games July 16-26, 2009, when they went 10 games in a row with a homer.

a Only Pawtucket in the IL has hit more home runs in its last 10 games with 11.

a The Red Wings have already homered 16 times in 19 games in June after hitting 15 homers in 30 games in May.

a Matt Carson, Michael Hollimon, Wilkin Ramirez, and Clete Thomas share the team lead with 5 home runs apiece.

IS THERE'S A WILKIN THERE'S A WAY: Wilkin Ramirez has homered in 2 straight games and in 3 of his last 6 contests. All 5 of his home runs have come in 19 games in June. Only 5 other players in the IL have 5 or more homers in June, including Empire State's Russell Branyan (7) and Jack Cust (5), Charlotte's Dan Johnson (6), Gwinnett's Ernesto Mejia (5), and Toledo's Ryan Strieby (5).

a All 5 of Ramirez's home runs have actually come beginning June 4, and only Branyan and Mejia have 5 or more long balls in that time.

TIME TO TIGHTEN UP: The Red Wings have allowed 6 or more runs at Frontier Field in 4 straight games for the first time since a 4-game stretch from June 18-20, 2011. Rochester hasn't allowed 6 or more runs in 5 consecutive games at Frontier since at least 2004 (more research to be conducted in the archives).

a Despite allowing 20 runs (all earned) in 27.0 innings in 3 games this homestand, the Red Wings still rank 2nd in the IL with a 2.89 home ERA (112 ER/349.0 IP). That total includes the 8 games as the "road" team against the Empire State Yankees. Only Indianapolis has a better home ERA of 2.25 (77 ER/308.0 IP).

TIME TO TIGHTEN UP: Red Wings' starting pitchers are winless in their last 5 games, going 0-3 with a 10.71 ERA (25 ER/21.0 IP) in that time. Not only that, the starting staff is just 1-5 with a 8.69 ERA (38 ER/39.1 IP) in their 10 games, a stretch that began after Liam Hendriks' final start with the Red Wings. Hendriks was recalled to Minnesota June 15 following his June 9 win at Indianapolis. Cole De Vries has the lone victory for a starter in Rochester's last 10 games, a June 15 triumph at Louisville.

a Wings' starters are 18-22 with a 4.12 ERA (164 ER/358.0 IP) overall.

CALLING ALL STARS: Voting for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game is underway. The game, featuring the IL and the Pacific Coast League, will be played July 11 at Buffalo's Coca-Cola Field. Fans can vote by visiting RedWingsBaseball.com and clicking on the "Fan Zone" tab through tomorrow.

a The leading Red Wings' candidate is Matt Carson, who leads the team with 65 hits, 17 doubles, 26 RBI, 34 runs, and 66 games played. He is also tied for the team lead with 5 homers with 4 others. Carson has 3 homers in his last 4 games, a stretch that includes a 2-homer effort Sunday at Louisville.
