Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - Andres Torres and Alex Hassan each drove home four runs while Pawtucket starter Anthony Ranaudo tossed seven shutout innings against Durham for the second time in June as the PawSox earned a sixth-consecutive win, a 10-0 shutout of the Durham Bulls Monday night in front of 4,688 fans at McCoy Stadium.
Mike Carp, playing in his third game of a Major League injury rehab assignment, played the first five innings at first base and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Carp, on the disabled list since June 2nd with a broken bone in his right foot, is now 1-for-8 during his rehab stint.
The PawSox (44-41) finished the month of June with a 17-12 record and with victories in ten of their last 14 games. After dropping the first contest in the current ten-game homestand, the squad has won six in a row and scored a total of 50 runs in those six.
Pawtucket scored four runs in the third, then three more in both the fourth and fifth innings. Torres' three-run home run (1) highlighted the rally in the third while Hassan's three-run double in the fifth completed the scoring.
Ranaudo (9-4) allowed only three hits and two walks during his seven dominating innings while striking out five. The right-hander has now thrown 14 scoreless innings against the Bulls in two starts, and has allowed only three total runs over his last five outings (4-0, 0.85 ERA since June 6th.)
Durham starter Nathan Karns (4-5) was charged with eight of Pawtucket's ten runs in his 4.2 innings of work. Dan Butler's RBI single started the scoring in the third and was followed by Torres' blast to right-centerfield, only his second hit since joining Pawtucket from Short-Season Class A Lowell earlier in the homestand.
The final six PawSox runs scored with two outs in an inning, including RBI hits from Hassan (double), Butler (double) and Torres (single) in the fourth that made the score 7-0. Hassan's three-run double in the fifth came against Bulls reliever Jake Thompson.
Pawtucket will try for its first series sweep of the season in game four of the series Tuesday night. Righty Rubby De La Rosa (2-3, 3.04) will get the ball for manager Kevin Boles, while right-hander Matt Andriese (7-4, 3.53) is expected to start for the Bulls with first pitch at 6:15 pm.
Limited seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com. Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:00 pm.
