COLUMBUS, Oh. - The Louisville Bats left seven runners stranded and recorded six hits in a 6-1 loss to the Columbus Clippers on Monday at Huntington Park.

Louisville struck first in the top of the first inning when Donald Lutz singled, scoring Ruben Gotay and giving the Bats the early 1-0 lead. Gotay, who was responsible for almost half of the Bats' hits, went 2-for-4 on the night with two doubles.

The Clippers had seven batters that recorded multi-hit games, with all batters compiling 18 total hits off Louisville pitchers. After tying the game in the bottom of the first inning, a three-run third, pair of one-run fifth and sixth innings and a four-run eighth set the score at 10-1.

Louisville right-hander Josh Smith suffered the loss, pitching four and two-thirds and allowing five runs on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Columbus right-hander Danny Salazar was dominant through seven and one-third innings and earned the win. Salazar struck out nine Louisville batters while allowing one run off five hits and walking one.

Louisville will try to split the two game series tomorrow night in Columbus at 7:05 p.m. when they send right-handed pitcher Brett Marshall (0-3, 12.75) to the mound to face right-hander Zach McAllister (3-0, 1.48).
