PawSox Drop Series Opener in Snowy Rochester

Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After a stone cold start to 2013, as losers in 11 of their first 13 games, the Rochester Red Wings beat the Pawtucket Red Sox, 5-4, in Saturday's series opener, recording their first back-to-back wins of the season.
A day after being rained out, the Wings and Sox played amidst intermittent snow flurries with a game-time temperature of 39 degrees and a windchill much colder. In the far-from-ideal conditions, Pawtucket (10-5) relinquished an early lead to fall for the fourth time in five contests, after committing three errors that led to four unearned runs. The PawSox also left 10 on base.
Facing lefty Andrew Albers, who shut out Pawtucket in 5.0 innings last Sunday, the PawSox capitalized on two walks in the top of the 1st. The latter, with the bases loaded, provided an RBI for Bryce Brentz, before Brandon Snyder delivered a two-run single.
But in the 3rd inning, right-hander Charlie Haeger, a knuckleballer making his Pawtucket debut, was betrayed by the first of three PawSox errors, a misplay on a grounder by Snyder at first base. Clete Thomas and Chris Colabello each singled to score a run. Trailing, 3-2, the Red Wings scored again after Haeger's throwing error in the 5th inning.
The tie didn't last long, thanks to a home run by Jose Iglesias, who launched his second in seven games with Pawtucket, leading off the 6th inning. In the bottom half, reliever Pedro Beato committed a throwing error on a pickoff play to set up a game-tying sacrifice fly by Eric Farris.
Colabello then went deep off Beato (LP, 1-1) in the 7th inning to give Rochester the edge for good. Shairon Martis (1-1) pitched 2.0 innings for the win and Anthony Slama (2) worked the 9th for the save.
The PawSox and Red Wings are scheduled to continue their series with a doubleheader Sunday at 12:05 p.m. Coverage on 920 WHJJ and the PawSox Radio Network starts at 11:50 a.m.
