Pawtucket, RI- The Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Richmond Braves 11-3 at McCoy Stadium Sunday. The Sox overcame an early 3-0 Richmond lead with a six run fifth inning, sending the Braves to their eighth loss in nine games.
Richmond erupted for three first inning runs. RBI doubles by Jason Bourgeois and Andy Marte and a Carlos Mendez sacrifice fly staked the Braves to a 3-0 advantage. The Sox began chipping back on a two-run homer by Justin Sherrod in the third. The Sox batted around in their six run fifth inning, an outburst highlighted by a three-run homer from Chip Ambres and a two-run double by Dave Berg. Berg doubled home another run in the sixth and Ambres knocked in two more with a double in the seventh.
Four Pawtucket pitchers held the Braves to four hits. Chris Narveson picked up the win. Mike Porzio, making his R-Braves debut, took the loss. Berg had three hits and Ambres knocked in five runs for the Red Sox.
