Pawsox Blast Off To Big Lead And Just Hang On

It looked like a cake walk on Monday night in Rochester, as the PawSox tok a 9-1 lead against Glen Perkins and Rochester. It was anything but, as the Wings rallied to make it a one run game. The PawSox escaped with a 9-8 victory.

Pawtucket scored single runs in the second and third innings, then erupted for 5 runs in the fourth. Aaron Bates hammered a 2 run homer to straightaway centerfield, the big blow of the inning. Mark Wagner added a 2 run home run in the fifth, to cap the PawSox scoring. Randor Bierd (2-0) earned the win, working 5 innings in his second appearance of the year. The Wings chipped away, scoring 2 times in the fourth. Brian Dinkleman hit a 2 run shot. In the sixth, Rochester scored 5 runs (4 earned). Dustin Martin homered for the second time in the series, a 3 run blast.

Leading 9-8 heading into the ninth, Robert Manuel was called upon to save the game. Dinkleman popped out to left, Matt Tolbert and Luke Hughes singled. Manuel then struck out Erik Lis, and got Danny Valencia to pop to short to end the game.

Kevin Frandsen had 3 doubles, Josh Reddick added a double and triple, with 2 rbi, Daniel Nava 2 singles and 2 rbi. In all the Sox had 5 doubles, a triple and 2 home runs.

The series winds up on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. Adam Mills(0-1, 4.00) faces lefty Ryan Mullins (1-0, 7.56).
