Gwinnett Wins Third Straight

Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Norfolk Tides 2-1 at Harbor Park Tuesday night. Todd Redmond earned the win pitching 7.1 innings, and reliever Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth to record his third save of the season. After three straight wins, Gwinnett (5-8) is now alone in third place in the International League South, staying five games behind division leader Durham. Norfolk (4-9) dropped to fourth in the IL South.
It Was Over When: The Gwinnett Braves struck early and scored one run in the first inning, earning a lead Redmond and the team would never lose. Braves outfielder Matt Young singled to start the game and moved to second on a Gregor Blanco sacrifice bunt. Brent Clevlen later singled to plate Young.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Redmond went 7.1 IP, allowing 1 R/ER while posting 4 K's and 0 BB. He held Norfolk to 6 hits, shutting down the side in the 2nd, 3rd and 7th innings. Scott Proctor relieved Redmond, giving up one hit in .2 IP. Craig Kimbrel struck out two in the ninth to post his third save.
At the plate: Clint Sammons was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Clevlen was 1-for-2 with a two-out RBI in the first. Matt Young was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a single in the seventh that helped score Sammons.
The Opposition:
On the Mound: Alfredo Simon went 7.0 IP, yielding 2 R (1 ER) while striking out five and walking three for the Tides. Reliever Armando Gabino gave up one hit and finished with 2.0 IP and 2 K's.
At the plate: Robert Andino was 2-for-4 with a double and the lone RBI for Norfolk.
On Deck: Gwinnett and Norfolk face off in game three of the four game series at Harbor Park Wednesday night. First pitch set for 7:15 p.m. Braves RHP Ryne Reynoso (0-2, 6.30 ERA) is scheduled to make his third start of the season. The Tides will counter with LHP Troy Patton (0-2, 11.12 ERA).
