Syracuse Mets News Release

Allentown, PA - Nate Bump earned his second win of the season holding the Syracuse Chiefs scoreless over seven innings and leading Lehigh Valley to a 2-1 win in the series finale at Coca-Cola Park. Bump allowed eight hits and struck out two while walking one and forced two double plays in his third start of the season. Four IronPigs relievers finished the final two innings of the game with Jason Anderson getting the save.

Lehigh Valley scored once in the second and once in the third off of Syracuse starter Andrew Kown (1-1) who took the loss. Dewayne Wise walked to start the second and was singled home by Paul Hoover. Kown induced a double play ground ball to end the second. In the third, John Mayberry Jr. led off with a double and was singled home by Wise for the second and final Lehigh Valley run.

The Chiefs had chances to score early in the game but were thwarted by strong defense from the Lehigh Valley outfield. Devin Ivany led off the Syracuse third with a double but was thrown out trying to score by left fielder Chris Duffy on a Roger Bernadina single. Bernadina would later be thrown out at the plate to end the inning by center fielder Dewayne Wise. Syracuse had baserunners in the fifth, sixth and eighth but could not score.

In the ninth, Syrause mounted a two out rally with back to back walks against reliever Scott Mathieson after he had struck out Chris Duncan and Luis Ordaz. Bernadina had an RBI single to score Ivany from second on a full count with two out. Pete Orr came to the plate with two outs but grounded out to second on the first pitch he saw to end the game.

Syracuse finishes their first road trip of the season 3-3 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Lehigh Valley. The Chiefs return home to Alliance Bank Stadium for a six game homestand against the Yankees and the Rochester Red Wings. On Wednesday, Collin Balester (1-0, 9.00) will start for the Chiefs and Kei Igawa (1-0, 5.40) will start for the Yankees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
