Pats Visit Moose Jaw for Rematch with Warriors

The Regina Pats (11-7-2-0) visit Moose Jaw on Sunday afternoon for the back half of a home and home set with the Warriors (14-4-0-0). Puck drop is at 4:00 p.m. at Mosaic Place. The Pats are coming off a 3-2 loss to Moose Jaw in the first half of the weekend series on Friday night at the Brandt Centre. Tonight is the third of eight meetings between the two clubs in 2017-18, the Pats are 0-1-1-0 so far in the season series. The game can be heard starting at 3:35 with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM.

The Regina Pats dropped a nail biter, 3-2 to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night at the Brandt Centre. Moose Jaw would score the lone goal of the first period and add another in the opening minute of the second to lead 2-0. 28 seconds after the second goal, Matt Bradley would score from the crease, his 15th to bring the Pats to within a goal. Then with the powerplay, Sam Steel hammered a one-timer from the right circle for his fifth and the game was tied 2-2. It stayed that way until the final minute when Jayden Halbgewachs took a pass in the high slot and ripped a shot into the top corner to give the Warriors the 3-2 lead and that was the final score.

The Pats are 0-1-1-0 against the Warriors so far this season, losing in overtime in the first meeting in Moose Jaw and then dropping the second meeting on Friday night. Sam Steel and Emil Oksanen both have two goals and two assists in the two meetings while Josh Mahura has put up four assists. Jayden Halbgewachs and Noah Gregor lead the Warriors with four points each in the season series while three others have two points. The Pats enter Sunday, four points back of the Warriors for first in the East Division, Moose Jaw holds two games in hand.

Powerplay Streaking

The Pats powerplay is riding high over its last five games. Regina has scored at least a goal in each of their last five contests, going nine for 27 (33.3%). Twice in that stretch the club has scored three powerplay goals in a game, three other times picking up single goals. For the season, Regina owns the third best PP in the WHL at 28.6% (26 for 91).

Career Pace

Pats forward Matt Bradley scored his team leading 15th goal of the season on Friday night against the Warriors. The overager is up to 26 points on the season and is on pace to surpass his previous career highs for goals (34) and points (77), set in 2016-17 with Medicine Hat. The Surrey, B.C. product projects to score 54 goals and 94 points this year.
