PATS 5, OIL KINGS 3
Regina, SK.: The Edmonton Oil Kings seven game road trip ended with a 5-3 loss to the Regina Pats. Garrett Mitchell and Matt Strueby scored goals in the first and the third periods to lead the Pats to victory.
"We got off to a poor start and gave up a power play goal right off the bat," said Oil Kings Head Coach Steve Pleau. "I thought we battled hard to even things up, but we didn't do a good enough job against their top skill guys down the stretch."
The Pats scored first on the power play when Colten Teubert fired a point shot that Oil Kings goalie Torrie Jung stopped, but Strueby popped the rebound home. Regina made it 2-0 on a goal from Mitchell who converted a great pass from Jordan Weal. The Oil Kings swarmed the Pats goal late in the period and were awarded a penalty shot when one of Regina's players covered the puck up in the crease. Tomas Vincour made a great move to the backhand on the penalty shot and scored his team leading 13th goal. That reduced the Pats lead to 2-1.
The Oil Kings tied it up early in the second period when Rhett Rachinski won a faceoff back to Drew Nichol, who fired a shot that Logan Proulx tipped past Regina goaltender Damien Ketlo. Regina scored their second power play goal of the contest, just over a minute later, to regain the lead. Jung stopped Cody Carlson's point shot, but Matt Delahey stuck the rebound home and it was 3-2 after two periods.
The Pats put things away with third period goals from Strueby and Mitchell. Tyler Hlookoff scored late for Edmonton to make the final 5-3. The Oil Kings (8-12-2-4) wind up their seven game road trip with one win, three regulation time losses, two overtime losses and a shootout loss for a total of five points.
The Oil Kings return home Friday, November 20th for their only game of the year versus the Spokane Chiefs. The Oil Kings will be wearing a special jersey and 12 of the unique uniforms will be auctioned off at the game to raise money to support the battle against Prostate Cancer. There will also be a raffle at the game where two more of the special jerseys will be up for grabs. Tickets for the raffle will be on sale at the game this Friday for $2 each.
