Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Saskatchewan -The Regina Pats are once again proud to be part of the Canadian Cancer Society's "National Breast Cancer Awareness Month". For the fifth straight year, the Pats will culminate their activities with their "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" on Saturday, October 30th against the Spokane Chiefs.

That night, the Pats will be wearing special pink and light blue jerseys that will be auctioned off, via a silent auction, and presented to the winners at the end of the game. The proceeds from the auction, as well as the sales of the Pats pink scarves this season, will go to the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

Over the past four years, the Pats have raised over 50-thousand dollars towards breast cancer research through their jersey auctions and sales of pink hats, scarves and lollipops. All of the money raised stays in Saskatchewan.

Regina Pats President, Brent Parker "We are excited to continue this initiative with the Canadian Cancer Society for breast cancer research in Saskatchewan. As a cancer survivor and someone who has close friends who are currently battling breast cancer, this month's events are particularly close to my heart. I know the people of Regina will aid us in making this a great night in support of a worthy cause."

"Raising awareness and supporting cancer research is very important to our entire organization," says Regina Pats General Manager, Chad Lang, "We are aware that this disease has touched many people either directly or indirectly and as an organization have and will continue to support cancer research on all levels. Personally having lost my mother to cancer I strongly appreciate the many people who have and continue to support cancer research and encourage those who are battling cancer to stay positive and keep fighting."

From the Canadian Cancer Society web page "Breast cancer is one of the most active areas of study today, as researchers tackle the problem from many sides. Some are working to learn more about what causes breast cancer so that one day it might be preventable. Other researchers are finding new and better ways to detect, diagnose and treat the disease."
