September 9, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats open up their 2022-23 pre-season schedule tonight at 7:00 p.m., beginning a home-and-home set against the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Pats play their first of five pre-season games before opening up their regular season at home on September 23 at the Brandt Centre against the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Pats are coming off a seven day training camp, which included six scrimmages and one intra-squad game, as Team Blue defeated Team White 8-3 on Tuesday at Pats annual Bennett Dunlop Ford Blue vs. White game.

There are currently 34 players on the Pats pre-season roster heading into tonight's contest against the Raiders. For pre-season rosters for both clubs, click below.

WHERE TO WATCH

Stream: WHL Live

The Pats will be broadcasting all of their pre-season home games on WHL Live, as well as two pre-season games on 620ckrm.com, as Dante De Caria and Nathan Kanter will have the call of the Pats contest against the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday, September 13 in Estevan, Sask. and the Pats home game against the Winnipeg ICE on Thursday, September 15.

WHO TO WATCH

Fans became accustomed to the play of returning star players Connor Bedard, Tanner Howe and Stanislav Svozil last season, but one acquisition from this off-season that is expected to be a top scorer for The Regiment is Alexander Suzdalev, who was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the third-round of the 2022 NHL Draft. Suzdalev is a 2004-born forward who has some chemistry with Bedard, as they played together during the 2020-21 season in Sweden. Playing for HV71 J20 last season, the 6-foot-3 winger totaled 51 points (15G-36A) in 45 games. He is expected to play alongside Bedard in the regular season after playing with him during the Pats scrimmages in training camp.

A couple other players that the Pats should be excited to see progression from this pre-season are Borya Valis, Matteo Michels and Layton Feist who looked faster and stronger during training camp.

For the Raiders, they will be leaning on returning veteran forwards Sloan Stanick, Evan Herman, Carson Latimer up front, as well as defencemen Nolan Allan and Landon Kosior and Belarus goaltender Tikhon Chaika. Stanick and Herman both produced 20+ goals last season, while Kosior scored 18 goals from the backend and Chaika finished with a .904 save percentage.

One name who Pats fans might see this weekend is "Derkatch" as Pats great Dale Derkatch's son Dayce was drafted by the Raiders in the third-round in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, and is listed on Prince Albert's pre-season roster.
