Pats Blast Four Homers to Drop Surf

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (June 27, 2003) – The Somerset Patriots hit four home runs and jumped on Surf starter Dave Carroll early to defeat Atlantic City, 10-5, Friday evening in front of 3,695 fans at the Sandcastle.

Somerset's Matt Dryer set the pace for the Patriots with a solo home run over the left field fence for a 1-0 Somerset lead in the first inning.

Down 3-2 in the fourth inning, Carroll surrendered home runs to Ryan Radmanovich and Alexander Hernandez that gave the Pats a 6-2 lead they would hold on to.

Carroll (2-4) was knocked out of the game after just three and two-third innings pitched, as he allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits and one walk.

Somerset hurler Matt Schwager pitched solid in relief of starter Brett Jodie, who exited the game after four and two-third innings after allowing four runs on six hits.

Schwager (2-1) threw three one-third innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four to pick up the victory.

Hernandez went 2-4 with three RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases to lead Somerset. Luis Lopez went 3-5 for the Pats while Dryer added two hits.

Chad Gambill had a stellar game offensively for the Surf with a double, two home runs and three runs scored.

ON DECK: The Surf and the Patriots play the final game of the series on Saturday, June 28, at 6:35 p.m., at the Sandcastle. Surf Beach Towels sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will be given out to the first 1,000 fans. In addition, ticket vouchers to the final round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, held on Sunday, June 29, at the Seaview Marriott Resort and Spa in Galloway, N.J., will also be given to the first 1,000 fans.
