Britt Back for Third Tour With Lumberjacks
June 27, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have signed power-hitting OF Bryan Britt to a contract, the Northeast League club announced today. To make room for Britt on the roster, the Lumberjacks released OF Juan Silvestre.
Britt, a native of Wilmington, NC, originally joined the Lumberjacks when the team was in New York during the 1999 season and hit .264, belting 20 home runs and driving in 63 to help lead the Lumberjacks to the playoffs. Britt was traded from the Jacks after the â99 season, but was reacquired halfway through the 2000 year and was a pivotal part of the Lumberjacks winning the Northern League Championship, hitting four home runs and collecting 21 RBI's down the stretch.
This season, as a member of the Newark (NJ) Bears of the Atlantic League, Britt had seen limited playing time, hitting four home runs and bringing home 11.
"We are expecting Bryan to make an immediate impact," stated Lumberjacks General Manager Curt Jacey. "We have struggled offensively and need a legitimate power hitter in our lineup."
Britt is the franchise record holder for doubles in a season with 26 in 1999, as well as the franchise record holder for most home runs in a season with 20, also set in 1999. The 28 year-old was originally a fourth round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1996 draft. He has 98 career home runs and 351 career RBI's in eight seasons and also has a career home run to at-bat ratio of 1/23.55.
Silvestre had hit just .224 with no home runs and only 8 RBI's in 28 games.
The Lumberjacks return home to Mahaney Diamond on Friday, June 27 to take on the Quebec Capitales at 7:15 PM. It is Mini-bat night so all season ticket, ten pack and five pack ticket holders will receive a free Lumberjacks mini-bat. There will also be a mini-bat handed out to the first few hundred fans through the front gate, which opens at 6 PM. Tickets are available by stopping in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall or by calling (207) 947-1900.
