Pats Battle Back to Beat Chiefs 4-3 in a Shootout

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats battled back from three goals down to beat the visiting Spokane Chiefs 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre. It was the Chiefs' first visit to Regina since October 17, 2018, which was a 4-0 Spokane shutout.
The Chiefs had a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission before the Pats turned it around and scored the regulation's final three markers to send the game into overtime. Neither team connected in the extra frame and the game went to a shootout, where Alexander Suzdalev and Tanner Howe both scored to send the Pats to victory.
Alexander Suzdalev (18th), Tanner Howe (21st), and Zane Rowan (first) scored in regulation for the Pats. Drew Sim stopped 26 of 29 shots directed his way in the game's 65 minutes and was perfect in the shootout picking up his seventh straight win.
Sage Weinstein (fourth), Chase Bertholet (11th), and Cade Hayes (sixth) replied for the Chiefs in the loss. Cooper Michaluk kicked out 26 of 29 shots before surrendering a pair in the shootout.

First Period
SPO 0-1 at 3:18 - Sage Weinstein (4), assisted by Kooper Gizowski // A long distance shot from Weinstein eluded Sim through the five-hole to give the Chiefs an early 1-0 lead.
SPO 0-2 at 12:36 - Chase Bertholet (11), assisted by Ty Cheveldayoff // The Pats got caught in their own zone for an extended period of time and the Chiefs capitalized as Bertholet fired a high shot off the post and in over Sim to extend the Chiefs lead to 2-0.
SPO 0-3 at 16:46 - Cade Hayes (6), assisted by Mac Gross and Michael Cicek (PP) // The Chiefs worked the puck around on the powerplay and Gross' long shot was tipped by Hayes past Sim to extend the lead to 3-0.
Second Period
REG 1-3 at 1:21 - Alexander Suzdalev (18), unassisted // The Chiefs turned the puck over in the left corner and Suzdalev grabbed the loose puck and tucked a backhand past Michaluk to get the Pats on the board, trailing 3-1.
REG 2-3 at 8:45 - Tanner Howe (21), assisted by Borya Valis and Alexander Suzdalev // Valis deked his way around the offensive zone and looked like he ran out of room but spun and sent a pass to Howe who tapped it in to cut the lead to one goal at 3-2.
Third Period
REG 3-3 at 2:26 - Zane Rowan (1), assisted by Sam Oremba and Corban Almen // A good shift by Almen, Oremba and Rowan led to a few scoring chances with Rowan eventually finding the puck and putting away his first of the season to tie the game up at 3-3.
Overtime
No scoring.

NOTES
2007 F Corban Almen and 2006 D Kolten Bridgeman were called-up to help the short-staffed Pats. Almen picked up his first career point (an assist) in the contest.
Tanner Howe extended his point streak to 10 games (11G-7A-17PTS) and has 24 points (14G-10A) in his last 14 games with a goal.
Alexander Suzdalev picked a goal and an assist and now has 31 points (12G-19A) in his last 18 games and extended his point streak to eight games.
Drew Sim has now won his last seven starts.
After scoring powerplay goals in 17 straight games, the Pats' have gone 0/4 in their last two contests.
Today's comeback win was the largest comeback win of the season, overcoming a 3-0 deficit.
UP NEXT
The Pats will close out the first half of their season with a pair of games this weekend. Firstly, they travel to Moose Jaw to play the Warriors at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Friday, December 16th at 7:00 P.M. The boys return home on Saturday, December 17th to play host to the Saskatoon Blades.
