Patriots Win in Ten in Last Regular Season Home Game

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-5 in ten innings before 6,010 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the bottom of the tenth inning. First baseman Joe Burke singled and scored on an RBI single by second baseman Elliott Ayala to win the game.

The Patriots broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shortstop Iggy Suarez singled and later scored on an RBI single by Ayala for a 5-4 lead.

Bridgeport answered with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Center fielder Adam Greenberg singled and scored on an RBI single by left fielder Tike Redman to tie up the game.

The Bluefish jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Luis Lopez singled, right fielder Colin Roberson singled, and second baseman Joe Jiannetti followed with a two-run double to plate Lopez. Catcher Tom Pennino then drove home two with a double, and an RBI single by designated hitter Victor Mercedes drove in the final run of the frame.

The Patriots got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon singled and later scored on an RBI double by left fielder Joe Holden to make the score 4-1.

Somerset cut the lead in half with a solo home run by Lydon (9) in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Patriots moved to within a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Josh Pressley doubled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Burke to make the score 4-3.

Somerset tied up the game 4-4 with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning by right fielder Michael Hernandez (15).

Patriots reliever Ben Grezlovski (9-3) picked up the win, allowing a run on three hits in two innings pitched. Bridgeport reliever Bartolome Fortunato (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits in 0.1 innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots will take on the York Revolution in the Freedom Division Series beginning on the road and returning to TD Bank Ballpark for Game 3 of the series on Friday, September 24th at 7:05 pm. The game includes a Post Game Fireworks Show. The 2010 Somerset Patriots Playoffs are presented by Somerset Hills Towing.
