Camden Riversharks News Release

Former major league catcher, Ben Davis, threw six shut out innings before catching the final three innings of the Riversharks 8-4 victory over the Camden Riversharks.

After three scoreless innings, the Riversharks took the first lead of the game in the fourth. Teuris Olivares singled in Richie Robnett, moving Chris Malec over to third base. Malec would later score on a pass ball, making 2-0 Sharks.

Camden extended their lead in the fifth. Chris Walker started a three-run two out rally with a single. Robnett then lined a ball into the left field corner, scoring Walker all the way from first. The very next pitch, Malec launched his seventh homerun of the season over the right field wall. It was 5-0 Camden after five innings of play.

Newark finally got on the board in the seventh inning, after Ben Davis had left the mound to take over catching duties. Eddy Camacho relieved Davis and gave up a lead off single to James Cooper. Cooper stole second and third base, eventually scoring on a ground ball to short stop. Camden came back with two in the bottom of the inning. Robnett was at it again, singling in both runs with a single up the middle. He finished the night 3-4, with three RBI, and two runs scored.

Newark added three more runs before the night was over, two in the eighth and one in the ninth. Arthur Barone recorded his first hit and RBI of the season doubling in Randy Gress for the fourth and final Bears run.

Ben Davis not only earned the win in the final game of the season, but in his final at-bat of the game (possibly of his career) lifted a deep fly ball to left field. The ball fell just in front of the warning track beyond Newark's Kennard Jones. Davis would wind up getting thrown out at second base, but Estee Harris scored on the play, giving Davis at least one last hit and RBI.

Derek Blacksher threw six innings for Newark, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits, walking none, and striking out seven. He took the loss, falling to 2-6 on the season.

The Riversharks finished the 2010 season with a 61-77 record. They were 39-31 in the first half, finishing just two games out of first place behind the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

2010 marked the 10th anniversary of the Riversharks playing in Camden. A special thanks to all the fans from the players, coaches, and staff for all your continued support. Hope to see you all again next season.
