Bears Fall in Season Finale

(Camden, N.J., Sept. 19, 2010) - In the 2010 season finale, the Camden Riversharks defeated the Newark Bears 8-4 on Sunday evening at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey.
It was a pitcher's duel early as Derek Blacksher matched up with Ben Davis to keep the scoreboard blank through the first three frames. Blacksher was perfect through his first six batters and scattered just one hit, while striking out two. Davis countered as he allowed just three hits and stranded four Bears over his first four frames.
The Riversharks struck first in the home fourth as Richie Robnett and Chris Malec reached on two-straight hits to start the inning. Teuris Olivares came up with a RBI single to plate Robnett and a passed ball brought home Malec and it was 2-0 Camden. Robnett added a RBI double in the fifth inning followed by a Malec two-run bomb over the scoreboard in right to push the advantage to five runs.
The Bears broke up the shutout against reliever Eddy Camacho in the visitor's seventh. James Cooper led off with a single and proceeded to steal second and third, his 14th and 15th swiped bags of the season. Randy Gress drove him home on a RBI groundout and it was 5-1 Camden. The Riversharks though came back with two more run in the home of the frame on a single off the bat of Robnett to make it a six-run advantage.
Kennard Jones drew a leadoff walk in the eighth followed by Paddy Matera, who was hit a by a pitch. Jones grabbed his 40th stolen base and came around to score on a passed ball and Matera crossed home as Carl Everett ripped a RBI single to right to pull Newark within four runs. Camden again answered back as Davis, who was in the starting lineup batting seventh and stayed in to catch, picked up a RBI on a single to left to make it 8-3. In the ninth, Arthur Barone notched his first hit as a Bear with a RBI double to bring home Gress for the final score of the game.
Davis (5-11) earned the win, tossing six innings of shutout baseball, scattering four hits, while striking out five. Blacksher (2-6) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits, with seven strikeouts.
