Patriots sign former Florida Marlins pitcher Justin Wayne

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball have announced the signing of former Major League right-handed pitcher Justin Wayne.

Wayne has three years of Major League experience with the Florida Marlins from 2002-2004. He pitched in a total of 26 games, striking out 37 batters in 61.2 innings pitched.

Wayne also has experience with the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. He was drafted fifth overall in the first round of the 2000 amateur draft by the Expos.

He spent the first part of the 2005 season with the Las Vegas 51's, the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate.

In 92 career minor league games, Wayne has an ERA of 3.90, allowing 227 runs in 524 innings pitched and 348 strikeouts.

Wayne has been activated for the Patriots current series against the Camden Riversharks and takes the roster spot of right-handed pitcher Brad Clontz, who signed with the Marlins at the end of last week.

The 2005 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, August 19th when the Patriots take on the Nashua Pride at Commerce Bank Ballpark at 7:05 pm. Friday's game includes Thermal Mugs for the first 2,000 fans courtesy of GSP International. The game is also Comedy Night at the ballpark.
