
Villacis spells victory for the Surf

Atlantic City _ The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-0 Tuesday night at Sandcastle Stadium behind the strong pitching of Eduardo Villacis. Villacis upped his record to 3-0 behind a seven-inning effort in which he allowed seven hits and no runs while striking out seven. The game marked Villacis's first start of the season at home for the Surf.
It was the third straight victory for Atlantic City and the Surf improved to 20-12 in the second half and stayed a half game behind Camden in the race for the second half pennant in the South Division. Melvin Rosario had good night offensively for the Surf and once again handled the starting pitching well. Rosario was 2-for-4 with an RBI and delivered a triple to centerfield. The Surf also got a solo home run from Gary Johnson to go with an RBI by Ozzie Timmons. Gary Bell pitched a scoreless eighth for Atlantic City and Felix Villgeas delivered a scoreless ninth.
Briddgeport dropped to 6-26. Brad Cornett took the loss and fell to 0-2. Cornet allowed three runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out three.
The game was played in 2 hours, 37 minutes before 1315. It was the second straight night the Surf got a strong pitching performance from its starter.
