Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN-The Riversharks scored five runs in the 4th inning and Ben Simon struck out ten batters, to lead the Camden Riversharks past the Somerset Patriots in the first game of a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

Somerset jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in a light rain at Campbell's Field, on three straight hits to lead off the game, highlighted by Jeff Nettles' 3-run homerun to centerfield. Nettles went 2-4 on the day. It was his 15th of the season and it came off Sharks starter Ben Simon, who would settle down, allowing just two hits after the first inning. In winning his fifth straight, Simon (7-7) worked 8 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He tied a season high with ten strikeouts.

The Riversharks came right back in the home half of the first with two runs, including an RBI double off the bat of Jason Fitzgerald, who extended his hit streak to a league-high 19 games.

With the game tied at three, Camden exploded for four runs in the 4th, chasing Patriots starter Scott Sobkowiak (8-7) after just 3.1 innings. Marcos Sanchez ripped an RBI double and Ryan Jones chipped in with a 2-run single, as the Sharks sent ten men to the plate in the inning to break the game open. Sobkowiak surrendered eight runs on eight hits, while walking three.

Lipso Nava went 3-4 for Camden who now have a one game lead over the Atlantic City Surf in the South Division. The Surf resumes a four game series tonight at the Sandcastle versus the Bridgeport Bluefish.

Greg Powell gets the ball in game 2 of the double dip later tonight. He looks for his team-leading 12th win of the season. Somerset counters with right-hander Mark Defilice.
