BRIDGEWATER - Somerset's Steve Falteisek pitched a rain-shortened shutout as the Patriots beat the Atlantic City Surf 5-0 Thursday night.

The game, played before an announced crowd of 6,170 at Commerce Bank Ballpark, was called in the sixth inning due to rain.

The Patriots had scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break the game open. Third baseman Jeff Nettles, son of former Yankee Greg Nettles, hit a two-run single in the inning. Edgard Clemente, a nephew of the late Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente, reached on an error that allowed two runs to score.

Falteisek (6-4) struck out five in six innings. Andy Zwirchitz (8-6) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and six walks in five innings.

ON DECK: The Surf returns home today for the start of a three-game set against Long Island. Game time at the Sandcastle is 6:35 p.m., with a fireworks show following the contest.
