
Patriots Finish 2006 Season With 2-1 Win

BRIDGEPORT, CT- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 2-1 in front of 3,345 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday afternoon.
The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Centerfielder Elliott Ayala ripped a one out double off the left field wall and then scored when shortstop Kevin Nicholson followed with a RBI double to left center field.
Somerset struck first with a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead when third baseman Patrick Boran led off with a single up the middle, stole second, moved to third on a Bluefish fielding error and scored on a wild pitch.
Bridgeport tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning when catcher Jaime Pogue hit a one out solo home run (6) to right field.
Patriots reliever Andy Pratt (3-1) picked up the win throwing 3.1 scoreless innings allowing five hits while striking out four and walking one. Bluefish reliever Sean Fesh (3-3) suffered the loss giving up one runs on two hits while striking one in one inning of work. Patriots closer Hector Almonte pitcher a scoreless ninth inning for his 15th save of the season.
With the win the Patriots improved to 32-31 in the second half and 65-61 on the 2006 season while the Bluefish dropped to 37-24 in the second half and 75-49 overall.
