
Patriots fall to Revolution

Bridgewater, NJ - The York Revolution defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-6 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.
The Revolution broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run home run by centerfielder Kennard Jones (4), after a double by catcher Sandy Aracena, for an 8-6 advantage.
York took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Right fielder Jason Aspito led off with a solo home run (20) to right field. After left fielder Matt Esquival singled, designated hitter Matt Dryer hit a two-run home run (16) to left field. Third baseman Matt Padgett singled and later scored on an error.
Somerset answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie up the game. Designated hitter Vito Chiaravalloti and catcher Jason Belcher singled and right fielder Elliott Ayala followed with an RBI single to score Chiaravalloti. David Housel's sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Before center fielder Sean Smith drew a walk to load the bases, Belcher scored on a wild pitch during the at bat. Shortstop Teuris Olivares followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Ayala and Smith scored on an RBI single by third baseman Matt Hagen.
The Revolution regained the lead with a run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Esquival (10) to make the score 5-4.
The Patriots regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Belcher singled and scored on an RBI double by Ayala, who moved to third on a passed ball. Olivares then plated Ayala on a sacrifice fly for a 6-4 lead.
York tied up the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning. Second baseman Jose Cruz walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI double by Aspito.
Aracena added an RBI single in the top of the ninth inning for the 9-6 final score.
York reliever Wayne Franklin (9-5) picked up the win, allowing a hit in one inning pitched. Patriots reliever Jason Richardson (8-2) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Franklin Nunez earned his fourth save of the season for York.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday night with a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution.
