Patriots Defeat York 4-2 to Snap Losing Streak

YORK, PA - The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 4-2 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Patriots broke a 2-2 tie with an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead when second baseman Matt Hagen lined a one out single to center, moved to second on a walk by first baseman Jeff Nettles and later scampered home on a two out Revolution fielding error on a ground ball to the mound off the bat of third baseman Teuris Olivares.

Somerset added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning to extend their lead to 4-2 when centerfielder Sean Smith lined a two out single to right center, stole second and after a walk by rightfielder Mike Rodriguez, scored on an RBI double down the left field line by designated hitter Josh Pressley.

The Patriots struck first with a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead when Smith led off with a single to center, stole second and after a one out single to center by Pressley, scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Hagen.

The Revolution tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning when shortstop Matt Rogelstad led off with a single to center, advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and came home on a one out RBI single to right by first baseman P.J. Rose.

Somerset plated a run in the top of the second inning to again retake the lead at 2-1 when Olivares led off with a double into the right field corner, moved to third on a one out single to left by shortstop Anthony Granato and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Smith.

York retied the game at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Rogelstad led off with a solo home run (1) to right field.

Patriots' starter Josh Miller (8-3) picked up the win, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three in eight innings of work. Revolution starter Shane Youman (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits while walking one and striking out three in six innings pitched. Patriots' closer Bret Prinz pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his second save of the season.

With the win the Patriots improved to 38-21 on the 2009 season while the Revolution dropped to 19-40.

The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, July 2nd when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
