Patriots Beat Barnstormers 5-1

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-1 before 5,095 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. First baseman Josh Pressley doubled and came around to score on an RBI double by left fielder Matt Hagen.

Somerset extended the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Catcher Jason Belcher led off with a solo home run (6). Third baseman Gera Alvarez drew a walk and second baseman David Housel reached on a fielder's choice. Right fielder Elliott Ayala plated Alvarez with an RBI single and Housel scored on an error on the play for a 4-0 lead.

The Patriots scored again in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pressley doubled and scored on an RBI single by Belcher to make the score 5-0.

Lancaster got their lone run in the top of the eighth inning on a solo home run by center fielder Jutt Hileman (9) to cut the lead to 5-1.

Patriots starter Brian Adams (8-5) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on five hits and nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched. Lancaster starter Jason Scobie (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits in five innings pitched. Brian Reith earned his sixth save of the season with 1.1 scoreless innings pitched.

The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers. The game includes Racecars (1st 1,000) and an Electronics Giveaway courtesy of PC Richard & Son. The game also features Classic Car Show Night.
