Ducks Bite Back Against Sharks

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 30, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks on Wednesday 9-4 before a capacity crowd of 6,266 at Citibank Park.

Abe Alvarez (5-0) surrendered eight hits but just two runs in six innings of work, striking out four. The lefthander picked up his second win in as many starts since joining the rotation. Jake Dittler (0-2) took the loss for Camden, giving up three runs on nine hits in five innings. Todd Williams and Joe Valentine provided two and one-third scoreless innings in relief for the Ducks to close out the ballgame.

Long Island rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth to grab the lead on four straight two-out singles. Richard Hidalgo's base hit capped the rally and put the Ducks ahead to stay. Kevin Haverbusch and Jamie Pogue homered, and the Flock put the game away with three runs in the eighth. P.J. Rose went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Edgardo Alfonzo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Damian Rolls picked up two hits and scored two runs as well, and made several terrific defensive plays at third base. For the second night in a row, each member of the Ducks starting lineup picked up at least one hit.

Shaun Boyd led the way for Camden with three hits, including two triples. Ron Davenport was 3-for-3 with two RBI in the losing effort.

The Ducks wrap up their series against Camden on Thursday. Game time is at 7:05 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 6:05 p.m. The Ducks will host Realtors Against Hunger Night, presented by the Long Island Board of Realtors. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Famous Racing Hot Dog Bobblehead, courtesy of Long Island Board of Realtors.
