Patrick Smyth Commits to Army West Point

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Patrick Smyth has announced his commitment to Army West Point. Smyth, a hulking 6'4'' 226 pound forward from Toldeo, Ohio is in his first season with the Fighting Saints. Smyth spent two seasons with the Springfield Jr. Blues in the NAHL before making his way to the Fighting Saints for the 2018-19 season.

"I'm super excited because I've been working for this moment for so long," Smyth said. "I have nothing but great things to say about Coach Riley and the Army program. As far as the combination of education and athletics, Army offers opportunities that you can't find anywhere else."

So far this season, Smyth has two goals, two assists and four points for the Fighting Saints. Smyth has played all 11 games thus far this season for Dubuque.

"From the moment [Patrick] got here it was apparent he was mature, reliable and a good teammate," head coach Oliver David said. "What was not known was how well he would fit in to our style of play, but from game one he and his line have been the heavy lifters and most consistent contributors in terms of playing our game. We're proud of Patrick and happy for him. This is a great example of the Army staff doing their work and finding Patrick because the fit couldn't be better."
