Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY IA - The Musketeers were back in action on Tuesday night against the Waterloo Black Hawks and despite the Musketeers holding a 5-1 lead at one point, Waterloo would use a 3rd period surge to take down the Musketeers 6-5 in overtime.

Sioux City would take an early lead in the 1st period thanks to the hot stick of Bobby Brink, scoring on the powerplay. Parker Ford and Martin Pospisil had the assists on the play. Neither team would find the back of the net the rest of the period, sending Sioux City to the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

In his first game back from injury, Marcus Kallionkieli scored at the 4:16 mark of the 2nd period to give the Musketeers a 2-1 lead. Just over 15 seconds later Tommy Pasanen lobbed a shot from the blueline that found its way past the Waterloo goaltender to give the Musketeers a 3-0 lead. Waterloo would get some life four minutes later on a goal by Matej Blumel to cut the lead to 3-1. At the 12:23 mark Martin Pospisil made an excellent move to beat a Waterloo defender and fired one home to give Sioux City 4-1 lead. That would do it for the scoring in the second period.

Things continued to look bright in the 3rd when Brady Smith scored his first goal of the season on the powerplay at the 3:35 mark, giving Sioux City a 5-1 lead. Unfortunately, things would take a turn for the worse after that goal for Sioux City.

The Black Hawks would go on to score four unanswered goals in the rest of the 3rd period to tie the game up at five, sending this one to overtime.

Unfortunately, Waterloo would keep the momentum in the extra frame and scored a powerplay goal just 24 seconds in to secure a 6-5 for the Black Hawks.

Sioux City will be back in action this Friday in Fargo before returning home on Saturday to take on the Omaha Lancers with puck drop set for 7:05pm.
