Steel Open November with Weekend Full of Fun

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Fans can Skate with the Steel, relive their favorite viral videos and dress up as their favorite superheroes and villains as the Steel host two big nights of entertainment and fun this Friday and Saturday at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva.

Friday's game is Viral Video Night, which will feature viral video-based promotions such as the "Rusty Evolution of Dance Party" and a chance for fans to "Name that Viral Video Star." In preparation for the game, Steel players recreated a famous scene from NBC's hit show The Office as well as their favorite viral videos.

Saturday night, Superheroes and Villains Night, is the first post-game Skate with the Steel of the season. Fans are encouraged to stick around after the game and take to the ice with the entire team for a chance to skate, get autographs and take pictures with the future stars of NHL and NCAA hockey. Fans may bring their own skates or rent them for $4 from the Fox Valley Ice Arena. Steel fans are encouraged to dress like their favorite Superheroes and Villains for the game with promotions themed around favorite caped crusaders and their arch nemeses.

It's a huge hockey weekend in Chicagoland as the CCM World Invite, the world's largest hockey tournament in one city, welcomes over 10,000 players to the area. The Steel are offering a special $12 White Zone ticket for tournament participants and their families.

Tickets for both home games are on sale now starting at just $10 with stadium seating on the glass still available for just $20. The Steel have simplified seating and pricing for the 2018-2019 season and parking is always free.

Chicago (4-4-1-0, 9 pts.) won its lone game last weekend, a 4-3 overtime comeback win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Steel face familiar conference rivals Green Bay and Muskegon each for the third time this season in this weekend's games.

Friday night the Steel and Green Bay Gamblers (4-6-1-0, 9 pts.) meet with the teams currently tied for sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Steel won both matchups in October including Chicago's first win of the season, a 5-2 final on October 6. The Steel then won in Green Bay two weeks later in a 5-3 victory on October 20. Forwards Cole Quisenberry (2-2-4) and Travis Treloar (3-0-3) have lead the team against Green Bay this season as Quisenberry recorded a goal and assist in each game while Treloar scored twice on Oct. 20. Goaltender Justin Robbins collected both wins this season and made a combined 52 saves on 57 shots against the Gamblers.

The Steel seek revenge when the conference-leading Muskegon Lumberjacks (8-1-0-0, 16 pts.) visit Fox Valley Ice Arena on Saturday night. The Steel are 0-2-0-0 this season against the Lumberjacks including a 5-3 home loss October 19. Center Nick Abruzzese and defenseman Matteo Pietroniro each recorded a powerplay goal and assist while forward Neil Shea chipped in the other Chicago goal in the game. The Lumberjacks won the first matchup of the season 6-0 on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Muskegon.

STEEL NOTES:

* The Steel won a thrilling game Saturday, Oct. 27 in Cedar Rapids as the team tied the game three times before winning in overtime, 4-3. Chicago left wing Robert Mastrosimone scored the game-winner 35 seconds into overtime after Quisenberry scored midway through the third to force the extra time. Each player scored twice in the contest. * Quisenberry is tied for second on the team with eight points. He has scored in five of the nine games this season including three multi-point games. The Brown University commit is currently on a two-game point and goal streak (3-1-4). * Abruzzese enters the weekend on a three-game point streak (2-4-6) and has tallied a point in four of the last five Steel games. * Treloar collected his first career USHL assist on Saturday, Oct. 27 after scoring five goals this season and one during the 2017-2018 season. He is currently second to Mastrosimone (6) for the team lead in goals. * Mastrosimone is on a three-game point streak (2-2-4) and has registered a point in all game the Steel have scored a goal in. * Defenseman Casey Staum (1-5-6) has registered a point in all but three games this season. In two of those games, the Steel were shutout.

MEET THE OPPONENT:

* The Steel host Green Bay Friday night for Viral Video Night and will try to stay perfect against their Eastern Conference rivals this season. * Green Bay has four players all with eight points this season as forwards Robert Herrman (5-3-8), Paul Maust (5-3-8), Gleb Murtazin (2-6-8) and defenseman Tyler Spott (2-6-8) have led the way. * Goaltender Evan Fear has played the bulk of the games for Green Bay and has a 3-3-1-0 record this season with a 2.97 goals against average and .914 save percentage. However, Jake Begley (1-3-0-0) has taken the net both times the Gamblers and Steel have met this season. * Chicago welcomes conference-leader Muskegon to Fox Valley Ice Arena Saturday night, looking for revenge after the Lumberjacks won the last two matchups this season. * Muskegon has a pair of forwards, Egor Afanasyev (5-5-10) and Danil Guschin (4-6-10) with double-digit point totals this season. Former Steel forward Mikael Hakkarainen joined the team late after he decommitted from Providence College and has nine points in five games. Afanasyev, Guschin, Hakkarainen and Colby Bukes all have four points in two games against the Steel this season. * Goaltender Brandon Bussi continues to pace the USHL with eight wins and his 2.33 goals against average and .919 save percentage are both fourth among goaltenders this season. Bussi has stopped 39 of 42 shots he's seen against Chicago in two games including a 24-save shutout on Saturday, Oct. 13.
