Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists completed their biggest come-from-behind win of the season on Wednesday night, once down by six runs, with a thrilling 14-10 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Tourists did not take their first lead until the bottom of the eighth and left the visitors stunned.
Greensboro built a 6-1 lead through the first three innings with Asheville's lone run coming on a Chad Spanberger second-inning Home Run. The Tourists rallied for five straight hits in the fourth including an RBI double from Spanberger and RBI singles from Taylor Snyder and Ryan Vilade.
With the score 6-4, Greensboro once again turned up the offense. The Grasshoppers plated four runs in the top of the seventh and led 10-4 heading to the seventh inning stretch. That is when the Tourists made their move.
Sean Bouchard plated a run by legging out a possible inning-ending double play. The next batter, Spanberger, launched a three-run Home Run to bring Asheville to within two runs at 10-8.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Tourists worked three walks, had two batters hit by a pitch, and chipped in a pair of singles including Casey Golden's two-run go ahead single. Spanberger added another RBI on a fielder's choice and two more runs scored on a throwing error.
The Grasshoppers went down in order in the top of the ninth. Spanberger finished with a season-high six RBI while Golden added a season-high four hits. Spanberger also stole two bases and scored four runs.
Ben Bowden notched the win with a scoreless eighth inning. The two teams combined for 24 runs on 28 hits. Greensboro recorded seven doubles and a triple. The two teams will take the field for an encore on Thursday night at 7:05pm.
