Peterborough Petes News Release

(Peterborough, ON, October 22, 2014)- The Peterborough Petes are excited to once again partner with Peterborough Northumberland Crime Stoppers, the Peterborough County City Health Unit, RBC, and the Canadian Mental Health Association to continue the Partners in Education program in the 2014/15 season.

Once again this season, the program will include topics on mental health, smoke-free lifestyles, and crime prevention. RBC has committed to supporting the CMHA through a donation a $5000.

The Peterborough Northumberland Crime Stoppers will share messages regarding the importance of Crime Stoppers in our communities, and educate students about crime prevention and anonymous reporting. The Peterborough County City Health Unit will continue to promote tobacco-free lifestyles with their Play, Live, Be, Tobacco Free program. Also, Representatives from the Canadian Mental Health Association will share their Kids on the Block puppet show, which teaches students about mental health and wellness.

Peterborough Petes players will also be in attendance at each session, helping deliver the messages and encouraging students to live healthy lifestyles.

"Kids look up to the Petes, and [the Partners in Education program] is a great way to get important messages across to students," noted Petes forward Hunter Garlent. "It feels really nice to give back to our community and teach kids about healthy living."

The first Partners in Education program took place on Wednesday at North Shore Public School in Keene.
