SAULT STE. MARIE, ON- The return to home ice on Wednesday, also came with the return of their captain DARNELL NURSE for the Soo Greyhounds. The 4th year blueliner was in the line-up for the first time this season, as the locals used a five goal second period to pace their way over the visiting Sudbury Wolves.

The game was the third meeting between the two Northern clubs in the Bell Challenge Cup.

JARED MCCANN got the scoring going quickly, just 1:07 into the game when BRYAN MOORE carried the puck in on the left wing before sending a pass to the slot for MCCANN who's low, quick shot beat Troy Timpano for the 1-0 Greyhound lead.

While carrying the lead, JOSEPH RAAYMAKERS was forced to keep the cushion early when Wolves rookie centreman Michael Pezzetta took the puck to the goal forcing the Hounds goaltender to make two early saves.

For Raaymakers, the game marked his 2nd career regular season start.

The visiting Wolves would strike near the midway point for two goals twenty-three seconds a part.

Pavel Jenys low drive tied the game at 9:20 before Danny Desrochers was parked at the side of the net and batted home his 2nd goal of the year at 9:43 to give Sudbury their first, and only lead of the contest.

It was a lead that lasted less than a minute before GUSTAV BOURAMMAN'S wrister from the wall tied the game at the 10:30 mark of the period.

Despite a two-on-one between ANTHONY SALINITRI and KEIGAN GOETZ shortly after, the two clubs skated scoreless through the remainder of the period sending them into the dressing rooms tied 2-2 after twenty minutes.

"It was in many senses a carbon copy of the last game we played here against Sudbury. Our first period, we're getting a feel for the game, they're working hard and beating us to pucks. Obviously they score a couple goals and it's not a great period for us" began Hounds Head Coach Sheldon Keefe when asked to look back at the opening period.

"We felt confident we could get our game in order and we did that in the second period" he continued.

And it definitely was a much different story than the first.

After early pressure, and two shots for the Hounds in the opening twenty seconds of the second period, their puck possession game, slick passing and skill broke the game open.

Just over midway through the period SERGEY TOLCHINSKY fired a shot off the left wing that would go off the cross bar and down behind Timpano giving the Hounds a 3-2 lead.

Then at 11:44, TIM GETTINGER (3rd Rd, 2014) notched his 1st career OHL goal slipped the puck through the legs of a Wolves defender before firing home the Hounds a two-goal cushion, now 4-2.

Exactly five minutes later, GETTINGER notched his second goal of the night using his long reach in front, scooping up the puck and swiping it in what appeared to be one-handed, into the empty portion of the net and a three-goal Hounds lead.

SERGEY TOLCHINSKY used nearly the same spot off the left wing at 17:48 to beat Timpano and then GABE GUERTLER cut to open ice between the dots and fired home the Hounds 7th goal with less than a second remaining in the period.

Hounds led 7-2 through two periods of play.

"I thought we certainly had some great shots in the second period, we have the ability to do that as we have displayed at different times. Clearly we didn't display that on the road which is why we performed and got the results we got" said Keefe.

Samuel Tanguay would take to the Wolves net to start the third period, relieving Troy Timpano after making 23 saves on 30 shots he faed in the Sudbury nets.

And while the period would go scoreless, JOSEPH RAAYMAKERS busiest action of his 13 saves in the period came with about thirteen minutes to go in the period.

A flurry of action around the Greyhounds goal saw Raaymakers recorded four of those saves.

Sudbury outshot the Hounds in the period, but were outshot overall 41-30 by the Hounds.
