Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Manchester, NH) - David Parkinson turned in another outstanding start as he led the Reading Fightin Phils (17-19, 45-59) to a 6-1 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (13-21, 47-55) on Friday night. Reading trails this week's series 3-1.

Parkinson (W, 7-4) went six-shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven Fisher Cats hitters. The lefty's stellar stretch continues as he improved to 5-0 over his last six starts.

Reading struck early with three runs in the top of the first. Madison Stokes led off the game with a walk, then Carlos De La Cruz followed with a single. Oliver Dunn's scorching August continued when he singled home Stokes for the game's first run. Cam Cannon then hit a sac fly that plated De La Cruz. Robbie Glendinning singled in his first at-bat with the R-Phils and Ethan Wilson singled to score Dunn and make it 3-0.

New Hampshire starter Ricky Tiedemann (L, 0-2) wouldn't make it out of the first inning in his first start for the Fisher Cats since May 4. The Blue Jays Top Prospect lasted just two-thirds of an inning and allowed three runs on four hits.

The Fightin Phils then tacked on two more runs in the second frame. Cody Roberts led off the inning with a single, then two batters later, De La Cruz hit a two-run home run to make it 5-0. It was De La Cruz's 20th home run of the season, as he continues to build on a career-high and also marks the first 20-home-run season of his professional career.

Reading remained quiet until the sixth when they added another run. Roberts and Stokes each walked to begin the inning and they both moved up a base on a wild pitch. De La Cruz drove in his third run of the night with a sac fly that played Roberts and made it 6-0.

After Parkinson exited, Andrew Baker came in to pitch the seventh for Reading and proceeded to strike out all three New Hampshire hitters he faced. Orion Kerkering tossed a scoreless eighth inning as he struck out two. Max Kuhns came in for the ninth and gave up a leadoff home run to Alan Roden to make it 6-1, but Kuhns would secure the victory for Reading.

Friday's win marked victory number 999 for Reading Manager Al Pedrique in his Major/Minor League managerial career. The R-Phils skipper is one win away from the 1,000 victory milestone as he is in his first season with Reading and the Phillies organization.

Reading and New Hampshire are back in action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Zach Haake is scheduled to start for Reading, and RHP Abdiel Mendoza is slated to be on the mound for New Hampshire. Video coverage is available on MiLB TV or the Bally Live App.

The Fightin Phils return home Tuesday, August 15, to begin a six-game series with the Somerset Patriots (Yankees). Tickets to all games are available at rphils.com/tickets, by calling 610-370-BALL or in-person at the Customers Bank Ticket Office.
