Papelbon Returns To Smokies From Triple-A Iowa

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce a roster move before tonight's series opener with the Montgomery Biscuits. RHP Jeremy Papelbon returned to the Smokies from Triple-A Iowa. He will be active for tonight's game.

The Smokies roster is now back at 24 active players.

Papelbon threw 1.1 innings for Iowa in a spot relief appearance against the New Orleans Zephyrs this past Sunday, allowing two hits and striking out one. He was 2-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 20 appearances for the Smokies this year, allowing 22 runs (19 earned) on 67 hits in 48.1 innings of work. He struck out 37 and walking 15. The Baton Rouge, La. native was a 19th-round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft Pick.
