Barons Announce Celebrity Softball Game Information

HOOVER - The Birmingham Barons announced the roster to the 2009 Southern League Celebrity Softball Game that will be played prior to the Home Run Derby on Sunday, July 12 at Rickwood Field. The game will pit the Magic City Vulcans - featuring a number of former Auburn athletes - against the Steel City Sluggers, which feature a number of former University of Alabama athletes. Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford will bat leadoff for the Magic City Vulcans.

Local media members will also be a big part of the game as the sports directors for all four local television networks will participate. ABC's Mike Raita and Fox's Rick Karle will suit up with the Vulcans opposite CBS's Brad Radice and NBC's Don Hawes who will play for the Sluggers. In addition, Jim Dunaway Mike Royer will play for the Vulcans while James Spann and Stephen Hauck will play for the Sluggers.

One of the more interesting match-ups provided will be between Wake Up Alabama co-hosts Shanisty Myers, who will play for the Vulcans, and Alexa Jones, who will play for the Sluggers.

The game will be from 3-4 PM and will be followed by the Home Run Derby at 5 PM. Tickets to the 2009 Southern League Celebrity Softball Game and Home Run Derby are available at the Regions Park Box Office or by visiting the Barons website. Fans can also call the Barons front office at (205) 988-3200. One ticket is good for both events. The 2009 Southern League All-Star Game will be played on Monday, July 13 at Regions Park in Birmingham, AL.

The Barons won the South Division First-Half Title and will open the playoffs on Thursday, September 10 at Regions Park. Game two will be played Friday, September 11 at Regions Park.
