The Panthers are excited to bring in a well-rounded defensive back with the addition of safety Esaias Gandy from Wyoming.

"Gandy is one of the most physical DB's I've seen play," said Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He's got a great break on the ball with very good ball skills."

Gandy emerged as a starter during the COVID season of 2020 and led the team's defensive backs in tackles the following year.

"Tackling is definitely one of my strengths and being prepared on the field-knowing what's going to happen out there before it actually does. I like to watch film."

Playing in cold weather has been a way of life, growing up in Colorado and playing in Laramie in college. Gandy welcomes the chance to be in a warmer climate.

"I've been to San Jose before because Wyoming played at San Jose State," said Gandy. "The weather was really nice. I don't mind the cold but it will be nice to be where it's warmer."

Coming out of high school in Aurora, Colorado, Gandy was ranked as the No. 17 overall recruit in the state in 2017 by 247 sports and earned First Team All-State Class 4A from the Colorado High School Activities Association. He ranked fifth in the state in tackles among all players in all classes.

At Wyoming, Gandy performed at a high level despite physically being banged up as a senior. The season off allowed his body to heal and comes to the Panthers ready to showcase his game.

"I'm in this to compete at the highest level I can compete," said Gandy. "I'm trying to grow and get better every day."
