Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, ME - Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon today announced the recall of Portland Pirates forward Rocco Grimaldi. In addition, the Panthers have also assigned forward Dave Bolland to the Portland Pirates for conditioning.
Grimaldi, a 5-foot-6, 160 pound right wing from Rossmoor, California, is heading to Florida for the third time this season. He began the year on Injured Reserve with the Panthers before being assigned to Portland on October 12. He was recalled again October 31 and remained there through November 25.
In Portland, Grimaldi has played in 13 games this season, scoring four goals and five assists for nine points. Three of those goals have come in his last three games.
With the Panthers this season, Grimaldi has played in 10 games, scoring one goal and one point.
The 22 year-old second year pro was selected in the Second Round (33rd Overall) by Florida in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He played three seasons of NCAA Division I Men's Hockey for the University of North Dakota before turning pro.
Grimaldi will join the Panthers ahead of their road game against the New York Islanders tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Bolland, a 6-foot, 184 pound center from Mimico, Ontario, has played in 25 games for Florida this season, scoring one goal and four assists for five points. The 29 year-old, who joined the Panthers as an unrestricted free agent before last season, is in his tenth year as a pro.
Drafted in the Second Round (32nd Overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Bolland won Stanley Cups with Chicago in 2010 and 2013. He scored the Cup clinching goal in Game 6 of the 2013 Final at TD Garden against the Boston Bruins with less than a minute left in the third period.
After six seasons with the Blackhawks, Bolland was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs before the 2013-14 season. He spent one year there before signing with the Panthers.
A veteran of 433 NHL games, Bolland has 85 career NHL goals, 123 assists, and 208 points. He has also totaled 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points in 67 Stanley Cup Playoff games, all of them with Chicago.
Bolland has played in 81 regular season AHL games with the Norfolk Admirals and Rockford IceHogs, notching 23 goals and 36 assists for 59 points. He added four assists and four points in 13 career Calder Cup playoff games. He hasn't skated in an AHL regular season game since February 10, 2008.
Before turning pro, Bolland played four seasons of OHL hockey with the London Knights from 2002-2006. He was junior teammates with current Pirates center Rob Schremp for the final three of those four seasons.
Bolland will join the Pirates ahead of their home game at Cross Insurance Arena tomorrow night against the Springfield Falcons.
