
Pankewicz, Weiman to start in CHL All-Star Game

WINDSOR, CO â The league has voted, and the Colorado Eagles will not only be represented behind the bench, but will also have two starters in the 2005 CHL All-Star Game. Right Wing Greg Pankewicz and Goaltender Tyler Weiman are slated to start for the Northern Conference on January 12, 2005 in Laredo, Texas.
This is the second CHL All-Star Game for Pankewicz who leads the Eagles in scoring with 31 points (12-19-31) in just 17 games played. He played in the 2004 CHL All-Star Game and was the league's leading goal scorer last season with 46 goals while setting a career-high with 96 points. This season, Pankewicz was the Oakley Player of the Week for week six when he scored nine points on four goals and five assists in just three games played. The Drayton Valley, Alberta native is playing in his 14th professional season, and will be accompanied by forwards Don Parsons from the Memphis RiverKings who recently scored his 1000th point in the CHL, and Chad Woollard of the Fort Worth Brahmas who leads the league in scoring (22-18-40). The defensive starters are Paul Esdale from the Wichita Thunder (1st CHL All-Star Game) and Derek Landmesser from the Memphis RiverKings who is in his third CHL All-Star Game.
The Eagles rookie Goaltender Tyler Weiman has been rock solid between the pipes all season. He (11-2-4) leads the Central Hockey League in shutouts (4), goals-against average (1.72), and save percentage (.938). He was the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for week four when he turned aside 58 of 59 shots in back-to-back wins over Rio Grande Valley. The rookie hailing from Lloydminster, Alberta was a Colorado Avalanche draft pick in 2002, and has played the last four seasons of Major Junior hockey with the Tri-City Americans in the WHL.
Colorado Eagles Head Coach Chris Stewart, along with the Central Hockey League will pick the remainder of the team. Stewart is coaching in his second CHL All-Star Game. He was behind the bench for the Eastern All-Stars in the 1999 All-Star Game during his championship run with the Huntsville Channel Cats.
