
Derek Hahn named starter for CHL All-star game in Laredo

AMARILLO, TX â For the second consecutive year, the Amarillo Gorillas will have a player in the starting line-up for the Central Hockey League All-Star Game.
Center Derek Hahn who leads the Gorillas in scoring was voted to start for the Southern Conference in the upcoming CHL All-Star Game in Laredo, TX on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
"I am excited about it, and it is an honor to get picked," Hahn said about the news. "I am very happy that our team is doing well too. I am looking forward to going to Laredo and having fun and getting the experience."
Hahn, a native of Elmira, Ontario Canada, will make his second consecutive all-star appearance and first as a starter. The 2002-2003 Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding Rookie is having another great year for the Gorillas with 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points. He has two power play goals and two game winners.
"We are very pleased and proud that Derek has been selected as a starter for the upcoming all-star game," said Ferras. "Derek has been a cornerstone of our hockey club since his arrival to Amarillo. He plays with passion and competes hard every night and this selection is very well deserved."
Hahn will join Jason Baird of the Corpus Christi Rayz and Brett Cullaton of the Laredo Bucks on the forward line. Derek Martin of the Lubbock Cotton Kings and veteran Bernie John of the Rayz will comprise the defense. Scott Reid of the San Angelo Saints will be the starting goaltender. Chris Dashney who has guided the Lubbock Cotton Kings to one of the most improved records in the CHL this season will be behind the bench for the Southern Conference team.
The Northern Conference starting forwards are Greg Pankewicz of the Colorado Eagles, Don Parsons of the Memphis River Kings and Chad Woollard of the Fort Worth Brahmas, while Paul Esdale of Wichita and Derek Landmesser of Memphis River Kings are the defenseman. The starting goaltender is rookie Tyler Weiman of the Colorado Eagles.
The remainder of the rosters for both conferences will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 2 in conjunction with the conference head coaches Stewart and Dashney and the CHL hockey operations department. As a special added bonus for the all-star game this year the Stanley Cup will be on display at the Laredo Entertainment Center where the game will be played. The All-Star game festivities will include the banquet on Monday, Jan. 10 and then the skills competition on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Fans will be able to tune into the game on CHLTV beginning at 7:30 p.m.
